Nepal Stuns West Indies with Dominant Victory, Clinches Historic T20I Series Win

Nepal created history on Monday, September 29, by outclassing the West Indies by 90 runs in the second T20I in Sharjah, sealing their first-ever series win against a full-member nation in the shortest format.

Since 2013, Nepal had managed only five series victories in 29 T20I campaigns, including multi-nation tournaments like the World Cup. This dominant triumph marked a milestone for the Men in Red.

West Indies were bowled out for just 83—the lowest total by a full-member team against an associate in men’s T20Is. The previous record was 88 by England against the Netherlands in the 2014 T20 World Cup. Nepal’s 90-run victory also became the largest margin of victory by an associate team over a full-member side in men’s T20Is, surpassing Afghanistan’s 81-run win over Zimbabwe in 2016.

After being pegged back by Akeal Hosein and Kyle Mayers early on, Nepal were steadied by half-centuries from Aasif Sheikh and Sundeep Jora. Sheikh, who anchored the innings and hit key boundaries in both the powerplay and death overs, described their approach: “Looking at the wicket, we felt 160 was a good total. The idea was to start slow and build a partnership, and that’s what we did. Credit to Jora—he batted really well. We know we have good hitters and wanted to hit every ball. Cricket is a festival for Nepal, and we’re grateful to our fans who support us everywhere we play. We want to finish the series 3-0.”

Chasing 174, the West Indies struggled against Nepal’s bowlers. Medium pacer Mohammad Aadil Alam starred with four wickets, combining pace variations and clever lengths to dismantle the visitors’ lineup.

West Indies captain Akeal Hosein admitted Nepal deserved the win: “Everyone expected a walkover against Nepal, but they adapted to conditions brilliantly. Their batters played key shots, they fielded with heart and soul, and exploited the slower tracks better than us. They were brilliant—it’s a reminder to measure ourselves against international standards and improve.”
