Sai Sudharsan’s struggles in Test cricket continued as he fell cheaply in the Ahmedabad Test against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Coming in at No. 3 after Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismissal for 40 to Jayden Seales following a 68-run opening stand, Sudharsan once again failed to make an impact.

Facing Roston Chase, the left-hander misjudged a quicker delivery that skidded onto middle stump. He went back attempting a pull shot but missed completely, with the ball striking his back leg plumb in front. The umpire raised his finger immediately, and Sudharsan walked back for seven off 19 balls, leaving India 90 for two in 24.5 overs.
While he has shown promise in limited-overs cricket for Tamil Nadu and Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Sudharsan has struggled for consistency in the longer format. In seven Test innings, he has scored only 147 runs at an average of 21.00, with a solitary half-century.
Earlier this year in England, he endured a mixed debut series. At Headingley in Leeds, he was dismissed for a duck in the first innings and made 30 in the second before being dropped for Karun Nair. Recalled for the fourth Test at Old Trafford, he struck his maiden fifty — 61 off 151 balls with seven boundaries — in testing conditions, but was out for a first-ball duck in the second innings after a long fielding stint.
Following his latest failure in Ahmedabad, Sudharsan faced heavy trolling from fans, with some even suggesting that Karun Nair — dropped from the squad — would have scored a triple hundred in his place.
“Karun Nair would have cooked a triple century in this home conditions against this bowling attack. Could have given chance over Sai Sudharsan.”
