Following India's recent defeat to England, cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has suggested crucial changes to the team's lineup for the upcoming second Test. Gavaskar specifically highlighted the inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav, anticipating favorable conditions for wrist spin at the Birmingham pitch.

Gavaskar believes Yadav should replace Shardul Thakur in the playing XI. "Whether Jasprit Bumrah is fit or not, I think Kuldeep Yadav has to come into the team... because the Birmingham pitch will be one where there will be just a little bit of help for the wrist spinner," Gavaskar stated.

Thakur's performance in the previous Test was underwhelming. He took only two wickets in the second innings, while his batting yielded a mere 5 runs. Despite his two wickets, Gavaskar implied that Thakur's overall performance lacked the impact needed for the team.

Yadav has only played one Test in England, back in 2018, without taking a wicket. Gavaskar, however, believes that Yadav’s variation could prove vital in Birmingham.

Gavaskar's Thoughts on Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair

Gavaskar also addressed the performance of the middle order, focusing on newcomers Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair. Both batsmen were dismissed for ducks in the first innings, leading to a collapse after a strong start.

While Gavaskar is hesitant to drop them immediately, he suggested potential changes if India falls further behind in the series. "If things don't go well in the second Test, maybe Sai (Sudharsan) and Karun (Nair)... Then I'd also look at Washington (Sundar), so that it really gives you a more solid batting, and also get a little more variety as far the bowling is concerned," he added.

India aims to level the series against England at Edgbaston, with the match commencing on July 2.
